Orrcon Steel’s NSW DC has a new home

According to a recent study of 2,000 Australians conducted by energy company EON, moving business premises is categorised as one of life's most stressful events.

Orrcon Steel’s New South Wales team tackled this stressful life changing event with composure, as well as an open mind.

New South Wales State Manager Hamish Meek said, “it all comes down to change management and understanding how people react to change.”

Orrcon Steel’s NSW sales office team relocated from Glendenning to Erskine Park in late 2017.

Along with the relocation to Erskine Park, it was also time to move warehouse distribution centres to Auburn.

With over 4,500 tonnes moved to Auburn, the larger warehouse enables the team to store more products undercover and the new site becomes more accessible for trucks loading and unloading product.

“The business needed to optimise the costs associated with warehousing in Sydney and streamline its service offer to the market.

“The Manchester Rd, Auburn warehouse has been supplying steel to greater Sydney for just over 47 years. The Auburn warehouse is home to many experienced staff, some clocking up continuous service stretching over 40 years,” Mr Meek said.

Relocating products, staff, furniture, computers and even kitchen items posed plenty of challenges for the team.

“I couldn’t be happier with the way the team approached this move, it was completed on time and without injuring anyone in the process,” Hamish said.

“Every site move meets new challenges, calling on the experience of our people and correct management of processes, they are quickly dealt with. Success depends largely on keeping the momentum going, while focussing on the outcome that is needed,” Hamish said.

Now the move has been completed the NSW State Manager believes the relocation has had a positive effect on the staff.

“The Erskine Park site is more spacious and modern than the last office so the feeling is warm and inviting. The Warehouse is looking full and functioning and our people on the floor are feeling positive about the change. We still have a way to go and things to solve and develop but we are on the right course and ready for the challenges,” he said.

The Orrcon Steel NSW State Manager’s advice for any business moving premises is to trust and respect change.
